London, 8th September 2025: New polling from OVO reveals that one of the biggest barriers to the UK’s electric vehicle transition is the complexity of public charging. Eight in ten EV drivers (79%) say the system needs to be simpler and more user-friendly, with many juggling multiple apps to manage charging at home and on the road.
Drivers are clear about what would help. Nearly half (47%) say that easier public charging would give them more confidence to go electric. Others want better coverage on motorways (42%) and clearer guidance on how and where to charge (36%).
OVO is making it even easier for electric vehicle (EV) drivers to power their journeys. From 1st September the OVO Charge app will become the only app EV drivers need for charging, as it brings together public charging and Charge Anytime smart home charging into one seamless experience.
This marks a UK-first in domestic EV charging convenience: one app, for charging at home and on the road.
A single app, complete control
With the new and improved OVO Charge app, built on Kaluza’s intelligent energy platform, customers can now manage every aspect of their EV charging in one place – including multiple cars in a household. Whether drivers are plugging in at home or on the move, OVO Charge gives full visibility, control, and savings on every charge.
What’s new:
Alex Thwaites, Director of Electric Vehicles, OVO said: “By combining Charge Anytime into the OVO Charge app, we’re simplifying life for EV drivers. We’re the first in the UK to offer this all-in-one solution as part of our relentless commitment to make EVs the go to choice for drivers.”
Existing Charge Anytime users will be phased onto the new Charge app throughout September and October.
