OVO Offers Two Free Hours Of Energy Every Week To Lower Bills This Summer

  • OVO is giving away two hours of free electricity every week this summer to customers signed up to its rewards programme, OVO Beyond
  • Each week, customers can choose when to use their free electricity from a variety of weekday and weekend timeslots 
  • With free hours up for grabs from the first week of May and throughout summer, customers with Beyond simply need to sign up to the reward through the OVO app

London, Monday 28th April: OVO is giving away two hours of free electricity every week this summer to customers signed up to its rewards programme, OVO Beyond, which is free to join.

Customers are able to choose the time they use the two free hours of electricity from week to week, meaning they can pick a time slot that works around their routine.

The time slots aim to avoid peak hours to help reduce pressure on the grid. During peak hours, there’s often not enough renewable energy to go around, which can result in fossil fuel being used to fill the gap.

To benefit, customers simply need to opt into the Beyond rewards programme through their OVO account or app, with free electricity hours available as one of several personalised rewards. The free hours offering will run from 5th May to 31st August, and customers will be able to sign up from today, 28th April.

Better yet, OVO’s free hours reward can be used in conjunction with other energy-saving perks, including OVO Power Move, which offers various rewards via a prize draw – including a year’s worth of free energy – for those who use energy at greener times of the day.

Since its launch, OVO’s Power Move has paid customers over £2.8 million for moving their energy use to off-peak times.

Gráinne Regan, Head of Beyond, OVO said: “We launched Beyond to help lower bills and reward our customers for taking greener action. So whether people choose to get ahead on meal prep, make a dent in the laundry or charge up the iPad, we want to help cut costs by giving two free hours of electricity every week this summer.”

How it works:

  • For OVO customers who pay by Direct Debit and have a smart meter, Beyond will unlock automatically inside the OVO app
  • Customers with Beyond can sign up to the two free hours reward, via the OVO app.
  • Customers can choose two hours a week of free electricity from a range of options made to work for them.
  • The following timeslots will be available to choose from each week:
    • 9am – 10am on specified weekdays
    • 1pm – 2pm on specified weekdays
    • 9pm – 10pm on specified weekdays
    • 10am – 12pm Sundays
  • Customers with Beyond should opt in each week within the selection window to secure their slots for the following week. 
  • And enjoy their two free hours of electricity.
