- OVO is launching a new solar installation service designed to help local businesses lower their electricity bills, gain long-term cost certainty and power their operations with clean energy.
- Later this year, any UK business with a suitable roof or land can sign up, irrespective of their energy supplier.
- Currently available to businesses covering parts of the South West, South East, East of England, and Greater London, plus areas in Scotland and Wales, opening to the mass market later this year.
- With energy costs remaining one of the biggest pressures facing small and medium-sized businesses, generating power on-site offers a practical way to reduce overheads. By installing solar, businesses can cut electricity costs by 30 to 50%, locking in lower energy costs for 25 years or more.
London, Thursday 26th February: OVO is moving beyond residential energy with the launch of a new end-to-end solar PV installation service for commercial properties.
The new commercial offering builds on OVO’s growing network of trusted local solar installers. By working with regional partners, the service not only helps businesses cut bills but also supports skilled jobs and supply chains within local communities.
The service includes the full offering from the initial site survey and system design, to the installation and maintenance of high-efficiency solar panels for businesses.
Later this year, any UK business with a suitable roof or land – and irrespective of their energy supplier – can sign up and save. Empty roof space is a wasted asset, and the new offering will support businesses in their efforts to save costs and carbon.
By generating their own power, businesses can hedge against market volatility, providing long-term budget certainty. With OVO’s commercial solar installation services, businesses will see their electricity costs slashed by 30 – 50%*, which they will be able to lock in for 25+ years. With strong daytime usage commercial solar also delivers fast returns, with typical payback for a commercial system being between 4 to 8 years**.
Ed Janvrin, Director of Franchise at OVO, said:
“Energy bills remain a real concern for local businesses. This launch is about giving them practical control. By generating their own power, businesses can reduce costs, protect themselves from volatility and invest more back into their operations and their communities.
We’re proud to be working with local installers to deliver systems that help power local economies as well as lower carbon emissions.”

Important information
- *Annual savings are dependent on your property type and location, roof type, slope and size. If your roof is shaded or isn’t south facing, figures are likely to be lower. Figures may be lower for businesses with limited daytime electricity use or constrained roof space.
We based the figure on the following:
a) A commercial rooftop solar PV system sized appropriately for the building (typically 20 to 125 kWp depending on business type)
b) Annual solar generation of approximately 850 kWh per kWp installed, in line with typical UK commercial rooftop performance
c) A self-consumption rate of 60 to 85%, reflecting common daytime operational use in sectors such as warehousing, leisure, hospitality, and care
d) An average commercial electricity unit rate of £0.20 to £0.25 per kWh, representing typical UK SME tariffs
Savings, payback periods, and performance figures are indicative only. Actual results depend on site conditions, system design, electricity tariffs, and consumption patterns. You’ll get a more accurate savings estimation once we’ve surveyed your property.

We based the figure on the following:
a) Installed system costs of approximately £800 to £1,100 per kWp for commercial rooftop solar, depending on scale and complexity
b) Annual solar generation of approximately 850 kWh per kWp installed, in line with typical UK commercial rooftop performance
c) Avoided electricity costs of £0.20 to £0.25 per kWh, representing typical UK SME tariffs
d) High on-site consumption of generated electricity, with limited reliance on export payments
Based on these assumptions, annual savings typically recover the upfront installation cost within 4 to 8 years, after which electricity generated is effectively low-cost for the remaining system lifetime (typically 25+ years).
