  • OVO Energy Solutions will deliver green homes improvements to 1000 homes in Cornwall
  • This follows £20.7M funding from the Government’s Department for Energy Security and Net Zero to improve the energy efficiency of private housing in Cornwall
  • To meet the UK’s government climate change targets, we must retrofit all homes to an EPC band C standard by 2035
  • The UK has among the highest rates of fuel poverty and one of the most energy inefficient housing stocks in Europe. In Cornwall alone, fuel poverty affects over 11.5% of all households.

Cornwall, 27 March 2023: OVO Energy Solutions will deliver green home improvements to 1000 more homes in Cornwall, bringing its total to 1,600 in the area. This has been made possible by £20.7M funding from the Government’s Department for Energy Security and Net Zero to improve the energy efficiency of private housing in Cornwall.

Residents in Cornish homes with low energy-efficiency ratings are set to benefit from a £20.7m government funding boost to make their homes warmer, greener and cheaper to run.

OVO Energy Solutions partners with Local Authorities and Housing Associations to help them achieve their fuel poverty and energy efficiency targets for homes. They  will be delivering works to the fabric of the home, including insulation and solar panels to bring the EPC rating of the homes up to band C or D.

Any home owner or private tenant whose home has an Energy Performance Certificate between D and G, who lives in a rural area and has a household income of less than £31,000 is eligible to apply.

A warm, well-insulated home is critical for all households across the UK, but particularly those with health conditions who are vulnerable to colder temperatures.

Mat Moakes, Chief Commercial Officer, OVO Energy said:

“By working with leading local authorities and housing associations, we’ve unlocked a huge opportunity to create greener, more energy-efficient homes for those people who live in draughty homes and will benefit from lower energy bills.

“Now, more than ever, the projects are critical to supporting households during the cost of living crisis while also bringing down the carbon footprint of the home. We’re proud to be working with Cornwall Council helping to retrofit homes across the county.”

Councillor Olly Monk, Cornwall’s cabinet member for housing and planning, said:

“This funding will help make our residents’ homes warmer, cost less to run and reduce their impact on the planet. It also recognises the additional challenges our residents in rural areas have when it comes to heating their homes.”

Councillor Andy Virr, Cornwall’s cabinet member for adults, said:

“Having a warm and energy-efficient home is key to our health and wellbeing and mitigates the impact of the increased cost of living.”
