It’s Time to Change - OVO Group

28 March 2019

Mental health is an issue we can’t afford to ignore as a business. 1 in 4 British workers are affected by conditions like anxiety, depression and stress every year. Mental ill-health is the leading cause of sickness absence in the UK, costing an average of £1,035 per employee per year, according to Time to Change.

Today I’m pleased to announce we’re signing the Time to Change pledge and making a formal commitment to raising awareness of mental health in the workplace. Our aim is  to change the way we think and talk about mental health at work. We’ve started by developing an action plan to get everyone at OVO talking about mental health, through running events and line manager training.

Already at OVO we have in place a wellbeing policy and internal guidance to help managers support their teams. We have partnered with the Skills Network, an external provider to run mental health awareness training, with over 100 staff signing up already. We’re just getting started but we’re always looking for ways to challenge ourselves and ultimately it’s part of how we can make OVO better for everyone.

At OVO, inclusion and diversity is about cultivating an environment which is open to all, increases engagement, fosters creativity and gives everyone a greater sense of belonging. This year we’ve started to take steps to improve and make OVO as accessible and inclusive as possible, we’re excited to empower everyone who is part of the OVO family.

As OVO’s Senior Sponsor for Mental Health I’ve been leading on starting a conversation. Mental health affects so many of us in different ways and it’s important that we can all raise how we’re feeling with those we work with every day.
