HERE COMES THE SUN! OVO Solar will help customers save over 90% on energy bills

• OVO will pay the best anytime export rate on the market for excess solar power to customers who purchase solar panels and batteries 
• Customers could be £1,400 better off each year, with its 20p per kWh anytime Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) rate
• The full package includes solar photovoltaic (PV) panels, batteries, inverters and a Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) tariff

London, 00:01, 14th June 2023: Today, OVO launches OVO Solar to help people cut bills and carbon by powering their homes with clean energy from the sun. 

Customers could save £1,400* a year, with OVO Solar’s full package offering solar photovoltaic (PV) panels, batteries, inverters and a best-in-market anytime Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) rate. Without the SEG tariff, people who buy solar panels, batteries and inverters through OVO can save more than 90%** on electricity bills. 

At 20p per kWh, the anytime SEG tariff is available to customers signing up to the full OVO Solar package. It means they can consistently earn the highest export rate for the excess solar energy they sell back to the grid, at any time of day.

With wheels in motion to roll out OVO Solar nationwide by the end of the year, the new package is initially launching in the South West of the UK and Wales***.

Having already installed thousands of solar panels, heat pumps and insulation measures in homes across the UK, OVO’s experienced advisors and installers will support customers every step of the way, from survey to quoting, through to installation.

The launch of OVO Solar comes hot on the heels of OVO calling for an end to industry greenwashing and for more investment in the technology that supports a zero carbon future. In April, after research from Cornwall Insights revealed tariffs being marketed as “100% renewable” have no positive impact on the environment and do not support the development of new renewable energy, OVO launched its Path to Zero – the company’s action plan to reduce bills and decarbonise homes.

Charlotte Pettinger, Lead Brand Manager at OVO, and her husband had 12 solar panels installed in February this year.

OVO has also launched a cost calculator, which estimates the solar system cost, the money and carbon each household could save, and shows what can be powered, depending on the number of solar panels selected.

Customer eligibility for OVO solar:

• Must be the homeowner and live in an eligible postcode: SA, CF, NP, GL, BS, SN BA, TA postcodes
• Must be an OVO Energy customer, sign up to the SEG tariff, have a Smart Meter and purchase solar panels and a battery through OVO to receive the 20p per kWh SEG rate 
• Non-OVO Energy customers can purchase solar panels and batteries through OVO, but will not receive the 20p per kWh SEG rate 
• Non-OVO Energy customers can switch to OVO and have a smart meter installed to benefit from the best-in-market SEG rate
