Board Governance Changes at OVO

19 July 2021

London, Monday 19 July 2021: OVO, the UK’s leading independent energy supplier, announces that Stacey Cartwright is stepping down as Chair of the OVO Energy Board to concentrate on other business and personal interests. The existing OVO Group Chair, Stephen Murphy, will assume Stacey’s role with immediate effect.

Stacey joined the OVO Energy Board as Chair in April 2020, following OVO’s transformative acquisition of SSE’s energy supply business which catapulted the customer-centric pioneer to second place in the UK market. During that time she has overseen the successful integration of the SSE business into OVO and helped steer the company through the covid pandemic.

OVO Founder and Group CEO, Stephen Fitzpatrick, said:

“Stacey has been an incredible asset to OVO from the very first day she arrived. Her experience was invaluable in making a success of our SSE acquisition. Her vision has helped us lay the foundations for a new commercial model that leans into the transition for zero carbon homes. Most importantly, her decency and strength has left an indelible mark on this company and I am very grateful to her for being part of the journey.”

The OVO Energy Board oversees the operations of OVO’s consumer-facing brands – OVO Energy, SSE, Boost and CORGI – led by CEO Adrian Letts.

Stacey Cartwright said:

“OVO is a special company and it has been inspiring to work with so many people committed to driving the world to zero carbon. It is very clear that the future of energy belongs to companies that can think differently and I have no doubt that OVO will be in the very front of that group. OVO is led by a terrific, dynamic and united team, and I will be watching keenly to see how they continue to successfully  drive the business forward to realise the vision.”

Stacey’s role will be filled by Stephen Murphy who has chaired the OVO Group Board since 2015. Stephen was previously CEO of Virgin Group – the first to succeed to the role after Sir Richard Branson – and is Chairman of GYG plc and London & Capital Ltd.

Stephen Murphy said:

“’I would like to thank Stacey for the insight and leadership she has given OVO as we have integrated the acquisition of SSE and built our retail platform. I am proud to have been part of the OVO team for 7 years as we have grown to be a major provider. I look forward to continuing that journey as we step up to the massive challenges of decarbonising the UK energy industry and to bringing true digital capability for our customers.’”
